  Our Style
We practice a traditional Okinawan Shorin-ryu style of Karate-do known as Shido-kan. We are a Shibu dojo of the North American Shido-kan Association, under the guidance of Seikichi Iha, Hanshi 10th Dan.

Our Mission
We exist to propagate the traditions of Shorin-ryu Shido-kan Karate-do.

This will be accomplished through the teaching of classical martial art forms and applications.

Our goal is to promote the personal growth and mutual respect of every student by fostering a spirit of cooperation and friendship, resulting in enhanced self-esteem, confidence and a positive mental attitude.

Our Training
Classes are 45 minutes for youth and 1 hour for adults and consist of a short warm-up period, followed by basics and then kata, kumite, bunkai and oyo bunkai. Karate requires effort and persistence and students can expect to be challenged and at the same time rewarded as they advance and their confidence grows. View our class schedule.

Tricia and Edward van Rhijn are strong believers in the value of training in karate. They began their karate training in 2003 under Senseis Roy and Margaret along with their two sons, Alex and Nick. At the time, the boys were 8 and 11 years old. The entire family continues to train together today and the boys are now young adults. The entire family has gained much from their years as karate students, both in terms of individual development and in strengthening their family relationships.

Edward van Rhijn has been involved in Shorin Ryu Shido-kan karate since 2003, training under Senseis Roy and Margaret. He was promoted by Hanshi Iha to 2nd Degree black Belt on July 16, 2009.
